Nanango

Nanango is the fourth oldest town in Queensland and was the first town to be established in the South Burnett. It is believed that the name of the town was derived from an Aboriginal word ascribed to an Aboriginal elder or referring to a waterhole. An early European settler described the locality as Nooganida Waterhole, later known as Bright’s Waterhole.

The CBD features chainsaw sculptures and murals which reflect the town’s connections with timber-felling, farming and mining.

Nanango has a substantial shopping area with trades and local businesses. RV and caravan parking in Scott’s Car Park in Henry street, next to the Visitor Information Centre. It has a range of sporting facilities, including a golf course and is also home to one of the largest outdoor markets in South East Queensland, held at the Nanango Showgrounds the first Saturday of each month.

A visually exciting experience awaits at the South Burnett Energy Centre which reflects the past, the people and the energy technology that developed the region and continues to mold its future.

Enjoy a stroll along the Ros Gregor nature walk or for a more adventurous experience try the go karts at South Burnett Kart Hire.

No visit is complete without a visit to Ringsfield House which is a living museum that was once a private residence, later used as a maternity hospital and women’s shelter. Take a self-guided tour or enjoy a coffee at Ringsfield Café.
