Yarraman to Kingaroy
Yarraman to Kingaroy 128 KM | 1 hour 46 mins
Start the adventure drive in Yarraman at Cooyar Creek. This body of water meanders along the Kooralgin Gilla Rd for many kilometres and can be accessed by a number of points along the way. The best locations being above the Ted Pukallus Weir and near the Yarraman Cemetery. Hard bodies, spinnerbaits, and jigged blades being the best methods to catch Bass and Yellow belly. Next up is Nanango to visit the wildlife bustling Barker’s Creek.
Barkers’ Creek is a small winding creek that begins at the base of the Bunya Mountains National Park and meanders its way North approximately 100 kilometres. Barkers Creek runs past the township of Nanango and is a feeder creek to Lake Barambah (Bjelke-Petersen Dam). Just below the dam wall of BP it ends when it enters Barambah creek. This creek system is quite small and tight and holds a tremendous amount of structure. The best holes in the system are located below and a kayak option would be the best to fish from.
Next up, The Stuart River. It begins below Mount Kiangarow within the Bunya Mountains National Park and flows north through the outskirts of Kingaroy, before flowing west through Gordonbrook and past the town of Proston. The river enters Lake Boondooma where it reaches the junction of the Boyne River and becomes the Burnett River.

For a memorable lakeside camping experience you cannot go past Lake Boondooma Caravan and Recreation Park. Boondooma Dam, built in 1983 to supply water to Tarong Power Station, offers great bait fishing opportunities, especially around the timbered arms of the dam.
Take a picnic and enjoy some fresh caught fish at Ficks crossing, just off the D’Aguilar Hwy, is a great waterhole about 5 km South of Murgon. Ficks has a car park and picnic areas for the family to enjoy and it’s nestled right on the banks of Barambah creek.
Round out the trip in Murgon at Bjelke-Petersen Dam. Camping and accommodation options are great as Yallakool Caravan Park is positioned right on the banks of BP Dam and has fully furnished cabins and powered and non-powered sites available.
