The shire of Wondai abounds with community spirit, town pride and old fashioned friendliness. Wondai is aboriginal for “wild dog” and two sculptured dingoes on a rock feature at the roundabout welcome travellers to the town. Within easy walking distance is a cluster of award winning heritage/cultural attractions, rustic gift shops, tea gardens and antique stores.

The charm of the attractive streetscaping and well-tended parks and gardens blends with the town’s well maintained buildings and houses, many of which retain the character of the days of early settlement, dating back to 1903. Wondai is well served by a variety of accommodation and eating facilities. The Racecourse/Showgrounds complex and separate Sportsground boasting modern, well utilised facilities and a wide variety of sports are catered for. A new hospital/nursing home complex has recently been constructed and the Industrial Estate is now in its second stage of development

Wondai has a population of approximately 2100 people and is situated in cattle and grain-growing country as well as having a productive hardwood timber industry. Wondai offers many sporting, cultural and social activities and has a reputation of being relaxed, friendly and welcoming.

Enjoy some time at Wondai’s very own quaint Village Green in the CBD area. Wondai is a popular stop over for many travellers on their way to Lake Boondooma or as they follow the South Burnett Wine and Food Trail
