Mount Morgan

The once richest gold mine in the Southern Hemisphere, and for a short era, the world, the township of Mount Morgan rewards it’s visitors with breathtaking scenery, captivating history, and one of the best bakeries in Australia!

Getting to Mount Morgan is easy. Within forty minutes’ drive of Rockhampton, and a little more than one hour from the Capricorn Coast, it’s an easy trip! Jump in the car and drive through awe inspiring landscapes – stop at the several lookout points on the way for unsurpassable views of Queensland, all the way to the top of the mountain!

Visit the recently refurbished CBD and see the many heritage listed buildings and take advantage of the free Wi-Fi.

On your visit to Mount Morgan, make sure to stop in at the Mount Morgan Historical Railway Museum and Visitor Information Centre at 1 Railway Parade, Mount Morgan. The station was established in 1898 and operated for 90 years, connecting Mount Morgan and all its riches to the world!

Don’t forget to bring your fishing rod and bathing suit with you to visit the No. 7 Dam, also known as “The Big Dam” before departing Mount Morgan. The last (and largest) of the seven dams built along the Dee River, The Big Dam is home to Dawson River Barramundi, Sleepy Cod, Yellow Belly, and Red Claw (otherwise known as Fresh Water Lobster) and is a popular picnic stop with a fully undercover playground and free electric BBQ’s.
