Canberra has evolved from the iconic Griffin design that responded directly to the topography of the local landscape. The new exhibition at Regatta Point presents an opportunity to celebrate the monumental aspect of the city. “A modern expression” was the Griffin’s original concept when they designed Canberra.
The Monumental exhibition captures the early concepts of monumental buildings, corresponding vistas and public art through photos, historical footage, models of statues and monuments and rare historical objects from private collections. Monumental buildings also feature, including the Australian War Memorial, the National Library of Australia, and Old Parliament House.
