The  award-winning Words Out West was once again a resounding success in 2025 for readers, writers, and word-lovers alike, right here on the Western Downs.  Be sure to book in early for the 2026 event commencing Friday 12 June 2026 to Sunday 14 June 2026 – Program yet to be finalised.  
Words Out West: Western Downs Readers and Writers Fest takes a novel approach to storytelling, with a host of events for all ages and interests.
The main Festival Day offers local and national storytelling talent featuring a number of well known Australian celebrities.  Join us at Books & Bubbles: where you’ll sip on champagne, mingle with presenters, and hear incredible stories.
Immerse yourself in the day-long Writers Retreat, with a creative writing masterclass for the adults and a tailored short story workshop for high-schoolers.
For a taste of how Words Out West does things differently, order at the bar and pull up a seat at one of the Schooners and Stories sessions offered around the region.
With free Author Tour and School Days across the region, there’s something on offer for all word-lovers: big and small.
