Classes, Lessons, Workshops and Talks

Step inside the writer’s world with State Library Victoria’s Beyond the Page series. Over three evenings, hear from incredible storytellers as they delve into their latest work and discuss their creative process.

The final event in the series welcomes one of Australia’s most trusted doctors, Dr Norman Swan, to discuss his newly released book, The Brain Cliff, an exploration of the myriad ways people can keep their brains sharp as they age.

What many people fear, especially as they hit their forties and fifties, is not being as quick of mind. Not remembering as well as you used to. By their 60s and 70s they worry there’s nothing they can do and that they are falling helplessly into an abyss which leads to dementia.

Dr Norman will be joined in conversation by Dr Preeya Alexander, co-host of the Health Report on ABC Radio National and author of Rainbow Plate and Eat Sleep Play Love. Concluding the event will be an audience question and answer session. Your opportunity to ask about the in-depth interview process with ‘cognitive super-agers’ and how this has reframed aging.

Auslan interpretation is available on request. Drinks will be available to purchase on the night. Book your tickets now.

Copies of Dr Norman’s books will be available for purchase from Readings at the event.
