Memorial Hill

Memorial Hill is Parkes’ most prominent landmark, offering breathtaking panoramic views over the town and surrounding farmlands. Towering 33 metres high, the Shrine of Remembrance stands as a powerful tribute to the region’s servicemen and women and is the most significant symbol of wartime history in Parkes.
Constructed in the 1920s, the monument has since come to commemorate Australian involvement in multiple conflicts, including World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. Each year, it draws locals and visitors alike who come to reflect, remember, and honour the fallen in a peaceful, scenic setting.
Surrounding the memorial is the Rotary Peace Walk, a gentle loop that offers a reflective bushland stroll and connects visitors with the story of peace and remembrance through interpretive signage and serene views. The northern side of the hill features Rotary Park, a family-friendly space with picnic areas and an adventure playground, making it ideal for a relaxed day out.
