Old Melbourne Gaol

Step inside Old Melbourne Gaol, one of Melbourne’s most iconic heritage attractions and home to Victoria’s oldest surviving prison. Opened in 1845, it’s where some of Australia’s most infamous figures, including bushranger Ned Kelly and gangster Squizzy Taylor, were once imprisoned.
Explore three levels of the Gaol at your own pace with the included self-guided audio tour. See the historic gallows, discover Ned Kelly’s death mask, learn about the 133 people who were executed at the gaol, and uncover the stories of the men, women and children who passed through its cells.
