Join Steamrail Victoria for a journey to the city of Warragul in the rolling hills of West Gippsland – behind two vintage streamlined diesel locomotives.
Departing Newport, Southern Cross, Flinders Street, Caulfield or Dandenong stations, the train will head from the heart of Melbourne through to the rapidly expanding southeastern suburbs. Reminiscent of the glory days of ‘The Gippslander’ an express run will be had towards the Latrobe Valley. Leaving the overhead wiring behind and escaping the suburbs, we will enter the lush farming country of West Gippsland. Relax onboard as the locomotive works hard to tackle the steep grades of Longwarry Bank before we arrive into the city of Warragul.
Explore the regional centre of Warragul. With the city centre only a few minutes stroll from the station, there are many cafes and restaurants to keep everyone well fed. The Warragul farmers market will be open in Civic Park until 1:00 PM (10 minutes walk from the station), featuring live music, ready to eat food, fresh produce and much more.
After a pleasant lunch, the train will depart Warragul before the express run back to Melbourne, stopping again at all the pick up stops.
