The Creative Lives of Dorrit Black, Ludwig Hirschfeld Mack and Grace Cossington Smith

Join David Greenhalgh, Curator, International Art; Deirdre Cannon, Assistant Curator, Australian Art; and Simeran Maxwell, Associate Curator, Australian Art as they explore the creative lives of three Australian artists, Dorrit Black, Ludwig Hirschfeld Mack and Grace Cossington Smith. Each of these artists produced modern, lively work featured in Cézanne to Giacometti.
Cézanne to Giacometti examines the moments of contact and influence between groundbreaking European artists and their Australian counterparts in the twentieth century. Bringing together over 80 works from the Berggruen collection with over 75 works from the National Gallery’s collection, this exhibition illustrates how the movement of people and pictures acted as driving forces during the development of international and Australian Modernism.
This talk will examine the pivotal moments in the careers of these three Australian artists, as they encountered the innovative new ideas of modern art through travel and education.
Please note that seats are limited and allocated on a ‘first come, first serve’ basis. Once seating is exhausted, standing room is available.
